Kathmandu: Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya has called for the swift submission of the election management draft bill to the parliament following a discussion on the matter. Thapaliya emphasized the importance of timely reforms in election laws as a crucial step toward enhancing the governance of the country.

During a joint discussion organized by the Election Commission and the Nepal Law Society, Thapaliya highlighted the significance of comprehensive reforms in election laws for the overall improvement of the country's governance structure.

On July 3, 2023, the Election Commission formulated and presented an integrated election law bill to the Ministry of Home Affairs. The bill was developed in consideration of various election-related issues and recommendations gathered from stakeholders.

Reflecting on the potential impact of the bill's passage, Madhav Paudel, former secretary of the Ministry of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs, emphasized the importance of political parties adhering to ethical principles during elections. He indicated that widespread reforms in election laws are anticipated upon the bill's approval.

The call for early submission of the election management draft bill underscores the Election Commission's commitment to fostering a transparent and effective electoral system that upholds democratic values and contributes to the country's governance enhancement.
